RED VELVET & WILD BORONIA
“Red Velvet and Wild Boronia” is a series of half-hour programs focusing on artists who performed at The School of Arts Café in Queanbeyan. See the complete listing of all “Red Velvet and Wild Boronia” programs.
The School of Arts Café operated in the main street of Queanbeyan between 1986 and 2000 and during this time became the best known and longest established cabaret venue in Australia, presenting seasons of performances by many of Australia’s most accomplished music theatre and cabaret performers.
Many of these performances were recorded by ArtSound FM 92.7 and these recordings, from which the performances in this series are drawn, have now become an invaluable archive preserving the performances of artists who performed at the café during a period of Australia’s entertainment history when the art of intimate cabaret flourished.
Engineered by Len Power, and produced in the ArtSound studios, the series is narrated by Bill Stephens who, together with his wife Pat and son Tim, owned and operated The School of Arts Café.
“Red Velvet and Wild Boronia” is broadcast on ArtSound each Thursday at 3.30pm and repeated during “Dress Circle” each Sunday afternoon at 5pm.
