ArtSound FM recently had the pleasure of chatting with country and Americana duo Catherine Britt and Lachlan Bryan, the creative force behind The Pleasures, about their explosive new album Enemy of My Enemy and its upcoming launch at Smiths Alternative in Canberra on October 25, 2025. In this engaging interview, the pair shared insights into their songwriting process, the raw energy of their sophomore release, and what audiences can expect from their live performance at the intimate Smiths venue.​

Catherine Britt, a seasoned country artist whose career kicked off with a duet alongside Sir Elton John and tours with legends like Dolly Parton, brings her authentic twang and storytelling prowess to The Pleasures. Lachlan Bryan, known for his alt-country roots with The Wildes and a knack for witty, heartfelt lyrics honed on international dive-bar stages, complements her perfectly. Their partnership, sparked by a chance meeting in Austin, Texas, over a decade ago, has evolved into a band that blends rock ‘n’ roll grit with classic country soul, backed by drummer Brad Bergen and bassist Damian Cafarella.​

The new album Enemy of My Enemy, released in August 2025, dives deeper into themes of love gone wrong, heartbreak, and redemption with 12 original tracks that swing from blistering guitar riffs to tender ballads. Highlights include the sassy duet “Was It Something I Said?” and the reflective “It’s OK (Knew What You Meant),” showcasing their vocal chemistry and unflinching honesty. Recorded primarily in Melbourne’s Ziggy Tone studio after initial sessions in Nashville, the record pushes the duo out of their comfort zones—Bryan on bass at times, Britt wielding electric guitar—for a sound that’s both volatile and vulnerable.​
