ArtSound Radio Theatre returns to The Mill this July with a live production of Kenneth Grahame’s beloved Wind in the Willows — adapted by Bart Meehan and directed by Lexi Sekuless.

A Story Worth Returning To
First published in 1908, The Wind in the Willows has been keeping readers and audiences company for well over a century — and it’s easy to understand why. It begins when Mole abandons his spring cleaning (sensibly) in search of something more interesting, stumbles upon the riverbank, and meets the charming Ratty. From there, together with the wise Badger, the two friends spend most of the story attempting to manage the spectacularly reckless Mr Toad, whose passion for motorcars leads him from one catastrophe to the next.
It’s funny, warm, and surprisingly wise about friendship, loyalty, and the irresistible appeal of the open road. Exactly the kind of story that works beautifully on radio — where a voice, a sound effect, and your own imagination do the work together.

This is the part that makes ArtSound Radio Theatre something genuinely different.
You won’t just hear the story, you’ll see it being built in real time. Actors gathered at standing microphones, reading from scripts as the old radio professionals did. Live foley and sound effects created right there on stage before your eyes. Music woven through the action. And a live audience whose laughter and delight become part of the performance itself.

One Thing Worth Knowing
The Mill is an intimate 67-seat theatre and the last season sold out. Doors open 15 minutes before show time. General admission means the earlier you arrive, the better your seat. Late arrivals cannot be admitted once the show has begun, so give yourself time to find the venue and have a drink first. Full access and wheelchair information is available when booking.
