ArtSound Garden Party
Sunday December 14th
2pm – 4pm

Best of Luck
Gary Luck

There’s nothing quite like live music in a leafy garden on a Canberra afternoon, and ArtSound FM’s upcoming Garden Party is set to be one of those “remember when” days you talk about for years. Join us in the gardens of the Manuka Arts Centre as local singer‑songwriter Gary Luck brings stories, nostalgia, and beautifully crafted songs to the ArtSound stage.

The Voice of a Generation: From Gordon Lightfoot to Canberra Classics

If you grew up with Gordon Lightfoot, The Seekers, Cat Stevens, Redgum, and Jim Croce on the radio, Gary’s music will feel instantly familiar. He has been playing guitar and writing songs since his teens, performing as a solo artist and in bands around Canberra for decades, and drawing on the folk and acoustic traditions that defined a generation. His long love of Gordon Lightfoot’s work even led him to co‑found The Lightfeet Band and the touring show “Sundown – The Gordon Lightfoot Story”, bringing those classic songs to Australian audiences.

A Tribute to History:
The Story Behind “When the Bombs Rained Down on Darwin”

One of Gary’s most powerful songs, “When the Bombs Rained Down on Darwin”, (aka “Blood on the Frangipani”) was written to honour his father’s experiences during the bombing of Darwin in 1942 and has been performed at official commemorations, including events in Darwin and at the Shrine of Remembrance. It’s a moving example of the way Gary weaves Australian history, personal memory, and melody into songs that resonate strongly with those who lived through the post‑war decades.

Join Us for an Unforgettable Afternoon

ArtSound’s Garden Parties are all about community: great music, friendly faces, a relaxed atmosphere, and the chance to support Canberra’s listener‑funded arts and music station. We’ll have some comfortable chairs out, or bring a picnic blanket, a hat, a friend or two, and settle in under the trees for an afternoon of stories in song from a songwriter who speaks directly to the baby boomer heart.

ArtSound Garden Party, Sunday December 14th, 2pm – 4pm
