Driveway: Artist of the Week

This week on ArtSound, we’re shining the spotlight on Brisbane’s own Full Flower Moon Band — a fearless five-piece rock outfit redefining the Australian music scene with their bold blend of psych-rock, garage, and indie grit. Fronted by the charismatic and visionary Kate “Babyshakes” Dillon, the band has been winning hearts with their captivating live shows, inventive songwriting, and genre-defying sound.
Kate Dillon’s onstage persona, “Babyshakes,” was inspired by a nickname from a past boyfriend. This alter ego allows her to separate the everyday from the extraordinary — giving her the creative freedom to explore fearless songwriting and magnetic performances. It’s this duality, between vulnerability and rockstar swagger, that forms the emotional core of Full Flower Moon Band’s music.
Megaflower: A Breakthrough Moment
In July 2024, Full Flower Moon Band released Megaflower, their third studio album. It debuted impressively at #1 on the ARIA Australian Album Chart and climbed to #6 on the ARIA Vinyl Chart — a historic milestone that cemented their place in Australia’s musical landscape. The album is an ambitious journey, blending punchy riffs, thoughtful lyrics, and a unique sonic palette that ranges from intimate ballads to raucous rock swagger.
Critics have praised Megaflower for its balance of humor, introspection, and raw energy, with standout tracks like “Super Like Me,” “Illegal Things,” and “Kiss Him Goodbye” showcasing the band’s range and depth. The album’s first pressing sold out within a week, prompted a second pressing, and proves that Full Flower Moon Band’s fan base is passionate and growing fast.
On the Road and On the Airwaves
Beyond studio success, the band has shared stages with legendary acts such as The Black Crowes and Nothing But Thieves, and continues to sell out national tours while also making waves internationally. Known for their tight musicianship and high-energy performances, they are quickly becoming one of the most exciting live acts in the country.
You can hear Full Flower Moon Band featured all week on Driveway, Monday to Friday, 5pm to 7pm on ArtSound FM 92.7. Tune in to catch their compelling tracks and discover why this band is more than just a rock group — they’re a movement.
