There’s a Seat in Our Studio This September

Ever wondered what it would feel like to sit behind the microphone, choose the music, introduce a song, or lead a conversation that someone hears on the other side of Canberra?

ArtSound’s Introduction to Radio Broadcasting course returns this September — four Saturday afternoons for people who love music, the arts, good conversation, or simply the idea of learning something new.

You do not need radio experience. You do not need to have the “perfect radio voice.” You just need curiosity, a willingness to have a go, and perhaps a few ideas you would like to share.

Over four weeks, you will spend time in the ArtSound studios learning from experienced presenters and getting hands-on with the practical side of broadcasting. You will explore what goes into putting a programme together: shaping an idea, speaking into a microphone, selecting music, planning interviews and understanding the small technical details that turn a collection of sounds into a radio show.

It is a welcoming first step for anyone who has thought, even quietly, I wonder if I could do that? Some people come because they know their jazz, folk, classical music, country or local arts inside out. Others arrive with no broadcasting background at all. What they have in common is an interest in connecting with people and becoming part of ArtSound’s creative community.

By the end of the course, you will have a clearer sense of how radio works — and whether you might like to make some of it yourself.
