Sometimes a natural disaster is so large in scale that it is hard to picture what it actually means for the people living through it. That is the situation now facing communities along the Nepal-China border, where catastrophic flooding and landslides in late August have swept away homes, roads, and in some cases, entire villages.
Families have lost loved ones. Others have lost their homes and their livelihoods in a single day. With many communities cut off by damaged roads and bridges, and conditions remaining dangerous, thousands of people are still waiting for the basics most of us take for granted: clean water, food, shelter, and medical care.
Why ArtSound is sharing this appeal
ArtSound FM is a member of the community broadcasting sector, and community radio stations across Australia have been asked by the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia to help spread the word about this crisis. It is a role we take seriously. Community radio has always been about more than music and conversation — it is also about connecting our listeners to the wider world, and to the causes that matter.
That is why we are supporting the Emergency Action Alliance’s Nepal Flood Disaster Appeal. The Emergency Action Alliance brings together fifteen of Australia’s most experienced aid organisations, pooling their expertise so that donations reach the people who need them most, as efficiently as possible. Rather than each charity running a separate appeal, EAA coordinates a single response, with funds distributed to member organisations already working on the ground in the affected region.
What your donation can help provide
Right now, aid teams are working in extremely difficult conditions to reach communities that have been isolated by the floods. Search and rescue efforts continue, and the priorities on the ground are the same ones any of us would recognise: emergency shelter, clean water, food, and medical assistance for people who have lost everything, including many children and older residents who are especially vulnerable in a crisis like this.
Every dollar donated to this appeal is directed toward that work. Donations of any size are welcome, and are tax deductible depending on your personal circumstances.

A shared response
This appeal reflects something community radio has always understood: that real help often comes not from a single grand gesture, but from many people quietly doing what they can. Australians have already responded generously to this crisis, and further support continues to make a genuine difference for the families rebuilding their lives after this disaster.
If you are in a position to help, please consider donating today. And if you can’t donate, sharing this appeal with family and friends is itself a meaningful way to help.
